Empowered teachers lead enlightened classrooms
It’s simple. It’s potent.
The most effective way to transform our education system at scale is to empower the heart of our education system: our teachers.
The most effective way to transform our education system at scale is to empower the heart of our education system: our teachers.
According to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) 2014 report, the world will require 25 million teachers by 2030. India alone will require 6 million more teachers by 2030.
For decades, our country has made several efforts to ensure that every child, especially in remote and underdeveloped regions, enjoys the right to a good education. This has been a struggle even before the pandemic. Many governments have realized that a new vision requires a new narrative.
Meghshala has been in the field working to overcome this challenge and deliver equitable education to all. Our approach is to focus on the teacher as we believe that if teachers are empowered, students will have a better tomorrow.

DARIBOKGRE - The First Community Library
‘Gift a book, change their story’: This campaign grew out of a shared concern and coming together for the cause, Meghshala Trust and Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District, Mr Swapnil Tembe, started the first community library at Daribokgre, East Garo Hills District(EGHD), Meghalaya.
We thank Mr Swapnil Tembe for initiating this project and helping us coordinate and organise the process. A big thanks to Sauramandala Foundation for helping us in providing the required infrastructure to start the library and Mr Rajiv Mehta, Trustee Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust for donating 600 books. Seeing the children immersed in those books is immensely rewarding. If you want to be a part of it and want to donate books, then do write to us at meghshalatrust@gmail.com or message us on Facebook/Instagram/Linkedin.
16 more community libraries
Meghshala’s ’Gift a book, change their story’ campaign helped to set up 16 more community libraries after its success in a remote town in Meghalaya. We started a new digital book campaign on Pratham Books’ crowdfunding platform, Donate-a-Book, to raise funds to set up community libraries in rural parts of Karnataka, Meghalaya and Delhi.
Beginning with just 1200 books, we were soon overwhelmed by the response when we received funds for 1880 books.
We thank Pratham Books for providing this platform to run our campaign. We also thank our funders, friends and relatives who contributed generously to help raise the funds to set up libraries in 16 government schools across India where Meghshala is already at work. We have selected 5 schools from Delhi, 5 from Meghalaya, 5 from Afzalpur, Karnataka and 1 from H.D.kote, Karnataka.
