Jyoti Thyagarajan

Jyoti Thyagarajan, an educator with a passion for High School Mathematics and Physics, has devoted over forty years of her life to teaching. Her teaching career started in Zambia, meandered through a leisurely stint in India and reached Kenya.  When her family returned to india, a second stint in two private schools in Bangalore brought her back to her old school! A couple of years in this school, another four years in a brand new International School took her to a respectable 60-year old. Retired years beckoned.

Fortunately, retirement did not mark the end of her journey as an advocate for equitable education.

In 2013, Jyoti took on the role of Founder and Managing Trustee of Meghshala Trust. This organisation was established with the mission of ensuring that every child has access to a quality education. Jyoti's tireless efforts and dedication to this cause have helped Meghshala Trust thrive.

Recently, Meghshala Trust invited Ontum Education Private Limited to collaborate and share their expertise with private schools that were unable to move up from the bottom of the pyramid of our population. Ontum Education co-opted Jyoti into being part-leader and part-contributor to Ontum Education in 2021. This partnership between Ontum and Meghshala caught the attention of Kevin Bartlett, the distinguished IB-PYP Curriculum Designer. He recognised the potential of both organisations to introduce The Common Ground Curriculum globally, with a particular focus on the Global South.

Jyoti Thyagarajan's remarkable journey as an educator, visionary, and advocate for equitable education continues to inspire and shape the landscape of education for the generations to come. Her dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit serves as a driving force behind the transformative initiatives she spearheads.

Today, Meghshala can be seen in all the states in India and even in some countries past our borders. This spread happened because teachers talk to each other and the word has spread. Jyoti Thyagarajan accepts this bounty with thankfulness and waits for the day when every teacher feels s/he is trained well enough to help children learn better.
